Making informed choices about fish consumption is one of the simplest ways to protect our oceans and the fish that live in them. Consider these numbers:
- 170 billion — Total pounds of fish taken from the ocean per year
- 4.8 billion — Total pounds of fish consumed annually in the United States
With more than 321 million residents living in the United States today, there is a huge demand for fish; by the numbers listed above, the average American will consume 15 pounds of fish this year.
The only way to impact global industrial fishing and save our ocean ecosystem is to lessen the demand for fish and fish products. We hope that our aquarium experience helps us all make sustainable food choices.
